RHINOS WELCOME SPIDER-Y TO THE FAMILY.

After 12 since founded Leeds based charity Spider-Y has attracted the eye of Leeds Rhinos Foundation and along with the wheelchair Rugby League team that has carried the Brand since 2012, the long standing and very succesful Wheelchair Basketball Team Leeds Spiders will formerly change its name to Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Basletball Team under the full banner of Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair, Spider-Y chairman Andrew Gardner explained the reasons behind the merger, " after several years spearheading the charity and sports clubs, spending many hours weather thats at training or at home behind the computer filling out countless funding applications or worse still monitoring forms. i decided i needed to take time out, and over a social discussion about all things sporting wise we turned to Bob Bowman CEO of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and asked if they would be interested in having us on board. The Wheels were certainly in motion and after 12 months of discussions and meetings we can know finally reveal our future which will include been part of one of the biggest and best Proffesional Sports Club Foundations in the world.

Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Rugby League team are the current champions of the United Kingdom and its first team currently top of the New Wheelchair RL Super League 2019 and our newely formed development side holding they own in the Challenge Trophy and head to the Semi final against Gravesend Dynamite on 8th June at Morley leisure Centre, Leeds, LS27 9JP. Rhinos 1st Team are away the week before to they local neghbours The Argonauts ( Dartford) 2nd June 1330 ko.

Rhinos then head into the start of the 3 game clash with previous champions Halifax which see 2 away games to them on the trot first Super League 16/06/19 the Challenge Cup Semi Final on 30/06/19 with the winner going on to the Challenge Cup final on 17th August Venue (TBC)

Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Basketball Team have started the process to rebuild the the teams for the new BWB season 2019-2020 and are looking for player new and old to come and join the club with a great future ahead, Rhinos have major aspirations of getting the club back to the Premier League in style and the club could become one of the biggest disability sports clubs in the United Kingdom.

Andrew Gardner will continue to work with the foundation using his vast knowledge and expertise in wheelchair sports at local, regional and international level will help the foundation continue his hardwork over the years.

Training at Morley Leisure Centre Wednesday 7pm - 8:30pm Development Rugby League 8pm - 10pm Super League Training., Thursday 8pm - 10pm Wheelchair Basketball Open sessions until September.

Sportschairs are provided but limited on numbers, Full coaching provided by BWB Level 2 graded coaching volunteers, and RFL Level WRL coaching volunteers.

All Volunteers are vetted and clear to volunteer, we are alway on the look out for more Players and Volunteers, training and fun provided.

SPIDER-Y is happy to announce additional Ambassadors to our charity to increase maximum exposure for the work we do.

We have invited the following members of our Basketball and Rugby teams to join our Patron Hannah Cockroft MBE, current Ambassadors Harry Brown and Sophie Carrigill on the ambassador register, in doing so we are recognising these indivduals and these achievment over the last 12 months and wish them luck in the coming years whever thats in Rio 2016 or in Australia 2017. AFTER breaking seven world records in eight days during 2010, Hannah Cockroft probably thought she’d had her fair share of wheelchair racing success.

But in 2011 it has only got better, the voluntary Leeds City Council worker is now a two-time world champion and one of Britain’s brightest hopes for next year’s Paralympic Games.

Cockroft, 18, only began wheelchair racing as a 13-year-old after a simple have-a-go session at a university open day. Five years on she is the worldwide queen of the track, winning both the 100m and 200m races at the recent World Championships in New Zealand.

Realistically her success ‘Down Under’ is hardly a surprise, not when the Halifax-based ace smashed seven world records in just over a week. But even Cockroft admits she expected nothing like a double gold in New Zealand, admitting the past 12 months has been one non-stop high.

“What a year!” smiles Cockroft simply, asked about the last 12 month’s achievements.

“I don’t know what to say really but I broke seven records in eight days and it was all a bit mental. hannah on track

“I had my last A-level exam, then I had my prom that night and then I went to Switzerland where I broke four world records there – the night after my school prom.

“Then I came back and the weekend after that I broke another three!

“Then it was all hard training up to New Zealand and I went there for the experience really. I ended up getting two gold medals – everything just worked out really well!”

“I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet and it’s all still a bit surreal.

"the road shows that Spider- Y host are a unique opportunity for the local area, its an amazing idea that promotes sport in a fun and inclusive way. This encouragement is continued in the work of the Leeds Spiders basketball team, a successful 2nd and 3rd division team. Their work as a charity is fantastic, giving every individual an opportunity that otherwise, they might not have!"

"with the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games fast approaching, everyone wants to be involved. In the past, in my experience, I have seen disabled youngsters being left out of the sporting world because of a lack or equipment or experience on others behalf. Now, with initiatives such as Spider Y, there is no excuse and people are getting involved and loving the experience! There is no excuse for anyone not to participate in sport and now this is being realised, more steps are being taken to include every level of ability." Hannah Cockroft April 2011
