LEEDS RHINOS HIT THE GRAND FINAL 3RD YEAR IN SUCCSSESSION.

Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Rugby League team secured a place in the grand final away to Medway Dragons at Medway park th evenue for the grandfinal on 22nd September.

Rhinos stole the game in grand fashion with 0 -100 win knotching up they second nil game of the season, which gives the young team a massive boost ahead of they last game of the season away to St Helens on the 18Th August. Then Rhinos will have 4 weeks to Prepar efo rthe Grand Final against local rivals Halifax and the formidable Jack Brown and team.

If you fancy a try out of Wheelchair Rugby League or even Wheelchair Basketball come done on 14th or 21st August to Morley Leisure Centre 1100 to 1500 for our summaer camp £5 for the day.

2 Wins Back 2 Back....

Leeds Rhinos made it two wins from as many games as they overcame Medway Dragons 78-42 in an entertaining game at Medway Park.

Both sides opened up with three tries each within the first fifteen minutes of the game, but tries from Tom Haliwell, Jodie Boyd-Ward and Ryan Richardson saw the Rhinos cruise to a comfortable 20-point lead.

Medway did cut the gap back to ten points with two well-worked tries from Sebastian Groves, but the game swung back to the Rhinos as a try for Josh Butler and another try for Richardson saw the Rhinos take control of the game.

Medway recovered to score a late first half penalty and they trailed 46-26 at the break.

The Dragons then started the second half on the front foot and, with help from Martin Lane, they managed to cut the gap back to ten points with 30 minutes left to play.

But, with the Dragons tiring late on, the Rhinos racked up 26 unanswered points, scoring five tries to close out an impressive victory on the road.

New Beginners and Junior [...]

JUNIORS POSTER 2017

SPIDER-Y are happy to announce New Sessions on Monday evenings starting off with Wheelchair Rugby League 7pm -9pm

Leeds Rhinos Coaching staff and players will be on hand to help new player come and have a go and learn how to play Wheelchair Rugby League.

These sessions will expand between now and over the summer to Include Wheelchair Basketball for Juniors, Women and Beginners.

Rhinos Wheelchair Team Finish off Season in Style.

Leeds Rhinos finished off this season in spectacular style with 13 members of the Club involved in this weekend’s 4 Nations in Rochdale.

The Winner's England WhRL featured debutants Ryan Richardson and Nathan Collins, along with Jodie Boyd-Ward, Tom Halliwell and Joint Captain James Simpson.

With Nathan Collins picking up player of the tournament for his first major international at just 16 years old is a massive boost to both players and the club.

The Management team at Rhinos gave a good account with success again for Martyn Gill joint head Coach of England now a successful 4 from 4 trophies, now looking forward to the next 12 months ahead which will include the World Cup 2017.

Andrew Gardner Chairman of Spider-Y also the England Team Manager had a busy weekend looking after the England Team and the Entertainment on site with the live streaming along with Josh Gardner Commentator and MC, Andy had the duty of getting the scores and the graphics on the BIG screen up to date, at present figures show we have a total of 4000 viewings over the weekend which is great achievement.

And to the Great achievement from Joshua Butler, Luis Domingos , Ewan Clibbens and Tony Godward who we only a couple days’ notice came together with their team mates and formed the Exiles with no pre comp training achieved 3rd place and brought the supporters to they feet with the outstanding try's and sportsmanship.

Four Leeds Rhinos WRL Players Named in the England Squad

Four Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Rugby League (WRL) players have been named in the England WRL squad for the 2015 European Cup in Medway.

Sebastien Bechara, James Simpson, Jodie Boyd-Ward and Tom Halliwell have all made the cut to take on Ireland, Scotland, Wales and France this September.

Two team staff from Leeds Rhinos WRL continue their roles manage and coach the side; Andy Gardner Team Manager and Martyn Gill Head Coach for the tournament.

The tournament starts in Medway Park, Kent from September 23rd till the 27th.

Wheelchair Tag Rugby League developed in France back in 2000. The Wheelchair Rugby League was introduced to our shores back in 2005. The game is quite unique in that it offers both disabled and non-disabled players the opportunity to compete both with and against each other. No matter what gender or age all players compete on level playing field which is created by the use of wheelchairs and some slight adaptions of the rules of Rugby League.

From conception at a meeting of minds in March 2011 between the Leeds Rugby Foundation, Leeds Rugby, Leeds City Councils Club Development officer, Leeds Disability Officers and ourselves (SPIDER-Y) we agreed to trial the sport over the close season in June 2011.

With the 1st of our 8 sessions we had 20 plus active participants and we out grew our training court by numbers. the conclusion was lets go for it.

So with the concept sold the participants wanting more it took 8 months of hard work fundraising, form filling until our first training sessions started in February 2012 in preparation for our first season in wheelchair Tag Rugby League.

So 2012 season we are ready and waiting Division 1 & 2 registered .....

We supply much needed social support and fitness training for people with physical disabilities and the families, competing at sport is both competitive and engaging for all who take part.

Plan and expected results

We will be fielding two teams in 2012's WTRL Division 1 and 2, playing teams from all over the UK including West Yorkshire, Mersey, Medway and Glasgow. Wrexham and Swindon play home and away and there is a League Cup which may feature the French team 'Catalan'. These will be much anticipated games with the excitement of the running game and the brute strength and tackles. 2013 sees the Wheelchair Tag Rugby World Cup come to England so here is hope that players from Leeds might me involved.
